Diamond Head Crater

Diamond Head Crater is a volcanic crater that was created around 150,000 years ago. It sits on the edge of Honolulu, right next to Waikiki beach. Since the base was just 10 minutes by bus from our hotel, we decided to take an early morning hike up to the top. We left about 8:45 and it took us about 30 minutes to hike to the top. It was fairly strenuous but a lot easier than the hike to the top of Kelso Dunes – so that turned out to be good practice for us!

This afternoon we attempted some surfing but the current was really strong and we kept getting dragged away from the waves, after about an hour we gave up! It started to rain quite heavily so we got changed and took the trolley to Ala Moana; a really nice open air shopping mall just down the road. We also managed to find a wash and fold laundry service today called Laundromat so we got some clean clothes now, woohoo!

This evening we got a taxi to a local Hawaiian restaurant called Ono, it is a tiny place that has won lots of awards and has photos of local celebrities and Miss Hawaiian Girls on the walls! People were queuing at the door to get in. We ordered some rice, raw tuna and Kalua Pork, the food was great and the price even better 🙂
