Coconuts in Copacabana

As we left mums house on Thursday evening the snow was hammering down and I was a little anxious that we might not actually make it to the airport. Luckily it had stopped by Friday morning and after a long 12 hour flight we made it to Rio de Janeiro šŸ™‚ We arrived at 10pm local time and it was sooo hot, we jumped in a taxi and drove to Copacabana Beach which will be home for the next few days.

Rio is only 2 hours behind England so we shouldn’t be too jetlagged, however we were all tired so went traight to bed! Emma and Chalkie were up at 7am walking along the beach, Paul and I both agreed that sleep sounded like the better option so we got up around 9am. We had some breakfast at the hotel and then went into the town in search for a sim card to allow us internet access on our phones. We went to several phone shops but in order to buy a sim card out here you have to have a CPF number, however the man at the newspaper stand didn’t seem to mind and sold us one anyway.

We then took a walk along the beach and found a stand selling coconuts so we bought some and sat on the beach drinking out of them with straws!

We were hoping to see Iguassu Falls this week so this afternoon we went to the bus station to try and book a sleeper coach as it’s a 24 hour journey by land šŸ™ We weren’t too keen on flying internally and unfortunately couldn’t get a sleeper coach so we have decided to go to Ilha Grande instead – an island off the coast of Rio

We got back to the hotel about 4pm and sat by the pool with some Bloody Mary’s and beers, we ended up staying out until 8.30pm putting the world to right. We were all a bit drunk, Emma came to the restaurant with us but was too tired to have dinner so she went back to the room! Me, Paul and Chalkie had some pizzas and ribs then went off to bed as well.
